What to Expect

When You Have Your Fitting

So You’ve Found Your Perfect Partner

and you’re getting married… Congratulations! Well okay, maybe none of us are all the way perfect… but your heart said yes. Now it’s time to take your dream dress and make it perfect too!

When you choose And Sew It Is to professionally alter your gown, you can rest assured you’re in capable hands.

Here’s a general overview of what you can expect:

When to Book

Your dress fitting schedule will typically begin 4-8 weeks before your wedding day, and to insure a preferred appointment time, it’s a good idea to call a few weeks before you’d like to meet with your seamstress. Keep in mind, if you need more than basic alterations, a little more time may be required.

What to Bring

It’s important to bring the undergarments you plan to wear with your dress, as well as your shoes (or at least the heel height you plan to wear) each time you meet with your seamstress. This will allow for the most flattering fit, and ideal length, to be achieved.

How Much Time to Allow

On the day of your first fitting you’ll want to set aside an hour or so. This will include the time to discuss any preferences. Depending on the type of alterations that are being done, a second fitting may be necessary before the work can be completed. Although second fittings are most often 20-30 minutes, your seamstress will let you know if more time is needed.

Determining Your Needs

Typical adjustments include taking in or letting out side seams, hemming, and a bustle… the overall cost will vary, (depending on the garment construction and detail), and the different approaches to giving you the best possible fit, will be discussed. Good communication is key…let your seamstress know what’s on your mind, and don’t be afraid to ask questions.

How Much it Will Cost

When your initial fitting is completed, and the necessary alterations have been determined, you’ll be given an estimate of the cost, as well as a time and date for your next appointment. Payment will be due when the work is complete.

Final Appointment

On the day of your final appointment,  when you stand in front of the mirror, the beautiful bride reflected back at you will have the sparkle of magic twinkling in her eyes, and you’ll know you’re ready to walk down that aisle looking and feeling your very best.
